The project for the redevelopment competition of the former Giulio Cesare Barracks originates from the transformation of a large disused complex into a new piece of the city, capable of stitching together an urban void and returning it to the community as a system of housing and public spaces. The intervention is based on the reuse of the existing layout and its evolution into an open urban organism, in dialogue with the surrounding context. Open space plays a central role in the project: courtyards, pathways and green areas create a continuous sequence of accessible places that foster social interaction, urban permeability and the quality of everyday experience. We are particularly enthusiastic to have worked on this project in collaboration with Archea Associati, through an intense and stimulating design exchange that enriched the entire process and contributed to shaping a shared vision for the future of the site.
